Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center is North Dakota’s only 24/7 emergency hospital and referral center, and we have been providing exceptional care to our veterinary community since 2005! At RRAEH we can provide specialty veterinary services in Critical Care, Surgery, Oncology, and Internal Medicine and are currently seeking veterinary assistants to join our Internal Medicine team; previous experience in veterinary medicine is preferred but not required.

Description

In the role of a RRAEH Internal Medicine assistant, you are supporting our veterinarians, technicians, and CSRs in all duties of the hospital and ensuring a comfortable and sanitary environment for all of our patients.

We are looking for someone who not only cares about our patients and their owners but our hospital as a whole. We look to create lasting bonds with patients and owners, while providing them with advanced care and compassion.

Pay: Starting up to $17 an hour. (More with veterinary experience)

Schedule: Monday through Thursday (10-hour Shifts, possibility of overtime but not guaranteed). No Holidays and No Weekends! (Opportunity to train and pick up ER shifts, but the Internal Medicine Service will be the main priority) *Schedule may be subject to change pending needs of the clinic but will not be executed without sufficient notice from management*

As an Internal Medicine Veterinary Assistant, you will:

  • Ensure a comfortable and sanitary environment for all patients.
  • Responsible for care of patients including keeping all wards and kennels properly cleaned and disinfected, exercising, feeding, laundry, and keeping patients clean.
  • General cleaning of treatment areas, exam rooms, and dog walk areas to maintain a clean, odor-free, and attractive environment.
  • Clean exam rooms after each visit and prepare for the next client and patient. Ensure supplies are always available and adequately stocked in exam rooms and treatment area.
  • Stock, prepare, and sanitize surgery suites. Clean and maintain instruments.
  • Properly and safely restrain patients, reliably and with compassion to prepare for procedures performed by technicians and/or doctors. Must be conscious of patient comfort needs.
  • Observe patients throughout the day for signs of illness and assessment of change in patient status. Report any abnormalities or concerns to the veterinarian or technician team.
  • Communicate with pet owners either in person or over the phone using a professional, cheerful, and helpful attitude.
  • Assist CSRs with out-patients and hospitalized patients from admission to discharge.
  • Perform in-house laboratory tests, complete forms for out sourced laboratory tests, accurately attach laboratory reports in EMR and clean up laboratory area.
  • Unpack, label and stock hospital supplies; stock cleaning and office supplies, stock kennel supplies. Ensure that supplies for cleaning, animal food, paper towels, etc. are current.
  • Prep patients for surgery and procedures, assisting when needed.
  • Assist with the operation of the anesthesia machine and other applicable equipment.
  • Assist in radiology.
  • Prepare, clean, and maintain Endoscopy equipment
  • Clean and autoclave instruments. Thoroughly clean autoclave per hospital schedule.
