Who We Are

Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center is North Dakota’s only 24/7 emergency hospital and referral center, and we have been providing exceptional care to our veterinary community since 2005! At RRAEH we can provide specialty veterinary services in Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine and Oncology and are currently seeking veterinary assistants to join our team; previous experience in veterinary medicine preferred but not required.

Description

In the role of a RRAEH Laboratory Assistant, you are supporting our veterinarians, technicians, and CSRs in all laboratory duties. The responsibilities vary with the current needs of the hospital team and individual abilities demonstrated by the employee.

We are looking for someone detail-oriented and able to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.

Pay: Starting up to $17 an hour (more with veterinary or lab experience)

Schedule: We are a 24/7 facility, weekends, nights and holidays are part of the normal schedule.

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will:

  • Perform urgent laboratory procedures and tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems
  • Understanding and adhering to safety protocols to protect oneself, animals, and colleagues from hazards associated with handling biological samples, chemicals, and equipment
  • Knowledge of procedures for processing different types of samples including centrifugation, staining, and preservation to prepare them for analysis
  • Process Digital Cytology slides
  • Communicate laboratory findings effectively to veterinarians or technicians.
  • Utilize Vet Radar to start and complete lab tasks
  • Prepare all samples to be sent to various Reference labs.
  • Follow proper protocol for storing and shipping various lab samples
  • Manage incoming results from reference labs
  • Responsible for all laboratory equipment maintenance and quality controls and able to troubleshoot any problems that might arise
  • Maintain an appropriate level of inventory for various lab procedures and assist in ordering
  • Helping to assure that every billable item, (product or service), is included on a patient invoice with any exception noted and signed by yourself and the veterinarian or practice manager on duty and kept as part of the permanent record
  • Display excellent communication skills with your peers, clients, and team
  • Keep the lab area clean and organized
  • Perform other duties as assigned
