Magic has spent her life doing what she loves most—working alongside her family as a hunting companion. So when she began losing energy, eating less, and struggling with her breathing, her owners knew something wasn’t right.
Magic was referred to Red River Animal Emergency Hospital, where advanced diagnostics revealed a serious infection within her chest called pyothorax. Further investigation suggested the infection may have been caused by a migrating foreign body.
To give Magic the best chance at recovery, our Emergency and Surgery teams worked together to perform a median sternotomy and partial lung lobectomy, removing the source of infection and helping restore her health.
After surgery, Magic spent time recovering in the hospital while her pain was managed and her healing closely monitored. Thanks to her determination and the dedication of her veterinary team, she continued to improve each day.
Today, Magic is back at home and doing wonderfully. Her family reports that she has returned to her normal, energetic self, acting as though nothing ever happened.
Magic’s story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of our patients and the incredible outcomes that can be achieved through advanced veterinary care.
