Pawsitive Care Story

When Kevin, a three-year-old domestic shorthair cat, stopped eating and began vomiting for two days, his family feared the worst. After an ultrasound at their primary veterinarian revealed a linear intestinal obstruction, Kevin was rushed to Red River Animal Emergency Hospital & Referral Center for emergency surgery.

The delicate procedure, called an enterotomy, required opening Kevin’s small intestine to carefully remove more than 30 inches of string that had tightly plicated his bowel. Without surgery, the obstruction could have led to further complications for Kevin and likely a fatal outcome. His recovery would be long, and the cost of treatment felt overwhelming for his family.

That’s when the Pawsitive Care Fund stepped in. With a $2,000 grant, the fund helped cover the gap between what Kevin’s owners could afford and the urgent care he needed. Our team worked through the night to make sure Kevin got the life-saving surgery and care that he desperately needed.

Thanks to their expertise – and the generosity of donors – Kevin’s surgery was a success. Within 48 hours, he was eating again, purring softly, and showing his trademark feisty spirit. By discharge day, Kevin was bright-eyed, pain-free, and ready to return home to the family that loves him dearly.

Because of Pawsitive Care Fund, Kevin was given the gift of another chance and a lifetime still to love.
