Pawsitive Care Story

Draco

When ten-month-old Draco, a spirited Doberman Pinscher puppy, stopped eating and began vomiting, his family knew something was terribly wrong. X-rays at his local veterinarian revealed a foreign object obstructing his intestines and putting his life at risk.

With emergency surgery as his only option, Draco’s owners faced an unexpected and overwhelming financial hurdle. As students who had recently moved, they exhausted traditional financing options. That’s when the Pawsitive Care Fund stepped in, providing a $2,000 grant to make surgery possible.

At Red River Animal Emergency Hospital & Referral Center, Dr. Anna Stansbery performed a delicate enterotomy to remove a rope toy lodged deep in Draco’s small intestine. The procedure was a success, and after intensive monitoring, IV fluids, and gentle feedings through a nasogastric tube, Draco was back to eating on his own. Within days, he was strong enough to go home with his tail wagging and appetite restored.

Draco’s recovery was smooth, and today he’s a happy, healthy puppy who reminds us all how a little generosity can make a life-saving difference.

Because of Pawsitive Care Fund, Draco’s story didn’t end in tragedy – it became one of hope and healing.
